Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband at Art Beat

Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband will be our headlining act for our Art Beat presented by Target event at our Henderson Events Plaza.  They will be performing at 8pm on Friday, May 6th.  We will have pre-show activities starting at 5pm that consists of various art displays, demonstrations and local musicians.  Entry is complimentary, no tickets necessary.

Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband was founded in the mid 1990′s in Ogden, UT.  They had released four studio recorded albums under their own record label before being signed in 2005 to Capitol Records.  They released the album Dream Big, in which had a debut single release of the same title that charted in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.  In 2008, the band signed with Montage Music Group.

Ryan Shupe developed the name “The Rubberband” based on his past experience with bands forming and then breaking up.  He wanted to create a band that would be “elastic” in their abilities to have members rotate in and out without disrupting the groove or changing its name.  The band’s sound is best explained as a little country, blue grass and some rock influence as well.

The Department of Cultural Arts and Tourism has enjoyed every minute of  presenting so many musical talents at this year’s Art Beat presented by Target at our Henderson Events Plaza, and having Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband join those ranks is the ultimate icing on the cake!

The Henderson Events Plaza encompasses 2.7 acres with 60,000 square feet of programmable event space with a shaded tiered seating amphitheater with seating and overflow available for 900 people.  It was Nevada’s first public outdoor events plaza completed in 2006.

Wizard of Oz live on the Henderson Pavilion stage

The Las Vegas Shakespeare Company puts a musical twist on one of the greatest motion pictures of all-time as they present, The Wizard of Oz, live on stage at the Henderson Pavilion.  Ticket prices are only $10 and performances are scheduled for May 13, 14 and 21 at 8pm and matinĂ©e shows on May 15 and 22 at 4pm.  Tickets are assigned seating, best available at time of purchase.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with this classic tale, swept away in a tornado, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are taken to the magical land of Oz.  It’s here, Dorothy embarks on a journey to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz, a great and powerful figure who everyone says can grant her a return home to Kansas.

As she skips along the golden path, Dorothy meets some memorable characters including a Scarecrow in search of a brain, a Tin Man needing a heart and a Lion seeking courage. Together they form an unlikely team, developing a strong friendship, prevailing over wicked opponents and discovering that their desires were never lost.

“The cast is excited to bring this show to life,” said Dan Decker, Director of the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company. “This is the perfect show for the entire family.”

The Wizard of Oz is the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company’s (LVSC) third collaboration with the City of Henderson. In October 2010, the local, professional non-profit theatre group performed a successful four-Saturday, four-park travelling tour of the City’s signature event, Shakespeare in the Park. In addition, the company was chosen to present an original holiday production in December during WinterFest.

We at the City of Henderson’s Department of Cultural Arts and Tourism are very excited about having LVSC present its musical twist on this classical favorite, and are highly anticipating the plans presented to us on how they will make this show one to talk about for years to come.  We cordially invite you to join us by visiting our Henderson Pavilion Box Office, visiting our website at www.hendersonlive.com or by calling (702) 267-4TIX for tickets.
