Shakespeare in the Park returns with A Mid Summer Night's Dream

The Shakespeare in the Park series has returned as The City of Henderson hosts The Las Vegas Shakespeare Company’s take on A Mid Summer Night’s Dream:  Four Parks, Four Weekends, For You!

A Mid Summer Night’s Dream is one of William Shakespeare’s most notable plays, and to see it brought to life by director Dan Decker and his talented cast and crew is sure to be a treat.  Stepping outside of the Shakespeare arena, the company brought a memorable and astounding performance to the Henderson Pavilion with their take on the classic; The Wizard of Oz, back in May 2011.  A lot of the actors in that performance have returned to partake in this Shakespeare classic and promise to bring a performance that is certain to be just as powerful.  You can learn more about the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company by visiting their website.

You can catch performances at four different Henderson parks, the first four Saturdays of October, at the listed locations:
Sonata Park:  October 1st
Discovery Park:  October 8th
Lake Las Vegas:  October 15th
River Mountain Park:  October 22nd

The City of Henderson’s Department of Cultural Arts and Tourism is proud to promote this annual event and we hope that Henderson residents as well as Las Vegas and Boulder City residents make one of these amazing four performances and enjoy a night of Shakespeare, the talents of the Las Vegas Shakespeare Company and a relaxing performance under the stars of our beautiful fall weather that is upon us.  Picnics and blankets are welcome and all performances are complimentary.  We are certain you will enjoy your time and the show!

Ironman World Championship 70.3 at Henderson Pavilion

This year, the City of Henderson played host to the Ironman World Championship for the first time, welcoming the Marine Corps Ironman World Championship 70.3. An Ironman competition consists of a three part race involving swimming, cycling and then a foot race to the finish line.

The race took place September 11 and two winners were crowned at the finish line, housed at our Henderson Pavilion: Craig Alexander from Australia in the men’s division and Melissa Rollison, also from Australia, in the women’s division.

The City of Henderson has been selected as the home for the Marine Corps Ironman World Championship 70.3 for the next four years, with next year’s date already scheduled as September 9, 2012.

We would like to thank all of the participants, organizers and the fans that helped make this inaugural year a great success. We hope that you join us again during our future years of hosting this competitive event.
