Jake Shimabukuro plays Henderson Event Plaza during Art Beat

Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro brings his complex and eclectic sounds to the Henderson Events Plaza during Art Beat on April 1st.  There will be pre-show events such as various art displays, demonstrations and local musicians starting at 5pm and the concert will start at 8pm with complimentary entry, no tickets needed.

Jake first became fascinated with the ukulele at the age of four and has played ever since.  He was first a member of the band Pure Heart back in 1998, who went on to win multiple awards through Hawaii’s version of the Grammys; Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.  He then played with the band Colon, co-started with former Pure Heart band member of the same name; Lopaka Colon.  In 2001, Jake left the band to pursue a solo career.

He is most noted for making sounds come from the ukulele that no one would expect, with the use of effect pedals, not to mention his complex and skilled finger work.  He has also shared the stage with Hawaiian born Bette Midler, playing during her rendition of the Beatles song “In my life”, during the Royal Variety Show in 2009.

We are very pleased to be able to offer the talents of Jake Shimabukuro to our Henderson residence at no cost, and welcome Las Vegas and Boulder City residence to join us, tourists as well.  It is certain to be a performance that will leave you speechless!

The Henderson Events Plaza encompasses 2.7 acres with 60,000 square feet of programmable event space with a shaded tiered seating amphitheatre with seating and overflow available for 900 people.  It was Nevada’s first public outdoor events plaza completed in 2006.
